A Recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford
The OCBS is at an important point in
its history. Professor Zacchetti, the Oxford Numata Chair for
Buddhist Studies, has been in post for just over one year. The
MPhil Degree in Buddhist Studies which he will teach is working its
way through the University for ratification. Professor Zacchetti is
working with DPhil students. The OCBS will be hosting a workshop on
Buddhism and religious minorities in March 2014. If funds allow, we
shall, in about a year’s time, co-sponsor a large conference in
Poona/Pune on 'Strengthening Buddhism in India'.
Oxford, more than
ever, is poised to become a world force in Buddhist Studies. However, after being mainly funded by its founders, the OCBS now
has to ensure sustainable funding to safeguard this future.
Therefore, we are launching this appeal
for a bridging fund. If we can raise £30,000 by January 2014,
this will ensure our remaining open until September 2014. We
will use this time to pursue sources of funding that will establish
an endowment of £2 million, ensuring the continuance of the Centre
and capitalising on the possibilities arising within Buddhist Studies
We have already raised 1/3 of the
bridging fund. We have split the £30,000 into 10 tranches of £3,000
and now seek to raise the remaining tranches. We remind you that we
get no funding at all from the University, the government, or any
other public source.
We are asking everyone on our mailing
list to please consider making a donation of whatever you can afford
to assist us in this. Whether one of the £3,000 tranches, or a
contribution towards one of them, anything you donate will be greatly
appreciated and help us to secure our future.
These are some of the activities that
would vanish without the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies’
"The OCBS provides me with valuable support and is an important part of developing the field of Buddhist Studies at the University of Oxford"
