In this talk Dr. Rapgay will be exploring conceptual understandings of the four foundations of mindfulness and discussing the various interpretations of how to practice from a Buddhist perspective and how independent scientific studies appear to support one particular version.

 

Dr. Lobsang Rapgay is a clinical and research psychologist at the Department of Psychiatry, as well a researcher in the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCLA.  He was the Director and Assistant Clinical Professor of the UCLA Behavioral Medicine Clinic and Program for six years which trained fellows from medicine, psychiatry residents and psychology interns.  His basic research is in the role of attention in anxiety disorders, and how the findings can be translated into enhancing the understanding the mechanism and clinical application of classical mindfulness.

He was a Tibetan Buddhist monk for 18 years and is well versed in Buddhist theory and practice.  He maintains an active practice of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
